How Long Must My Passport Be Valid for a UAE eVisa?

Overview

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the UAE. This is a requirement of the UAE authorities. If your passport expires before that, you must renew it before applying for an eVisa. We check the details you provide; if the passport does not meet the 6-month rule, your application may be rejected.

The 6-Month Rule

  • From when? – From your date of arrival in the UAE (the first day you enter), not from the day you apply.
  • Example – If you will arrive on 15 August, your passport must be valid at least until 15 February of the following year.
  • Why? – The UAE (and many other countries) require this to ensure your passport is valid for the whole of your stay and for any unexpected extension or delay.

When you apply, you give your intended entry date. We use that to ensure your passport meets the requirement. It is your responsibility to have a valid passport when you travel.

How to Check Your Passport

  • Find the expiry date on the photo page of your passport.
  • Take your intended date of arrival in the UAE.
  • Count 6 months forward from that arrival date. Your passport must still be valid on that date.

If in doubt, renew your passport before applying. Applications with passports that do not meet the 6-month rule can be rejected, and government fees are typically non-refundable.

Passport Expiring Soon

  • Before applying – If your passport will have less than 6 months validity from your arrival date, renew the passport first, then apply with the new passport details.
  • After applying – If you applied and then realise your passport will not meet the 6-month rule by the time you travel, contact us with your reference number. We cannot change the passport number after submission in all cases; you may need to reapply with the new passport and pay the fees again.
  • Renewal in progress – Apply only when you have the new passport in hand and can upload a copy of its bio page. Do not apply with an old passport if you plan to travel on a new one.

Each Traveler Needs a Passport

Every passenger on your application, including infants and children, must have their own passport. There are no exceptions. Each passport must meet the 6-month validity rule from that passenger’s intended arrival date. Children cannot be on a parent’s passport for UAE eVisas; they need a separate passport and a separate eVisa.
