Overview
If you have dual (or multiple) citizenship, you must apply for your UAE eVisa using the passport you will use to enter the UAE. The name, nationality, passport number, and expiry on your application must match that passport. Do not apply with one passport and travel with another; it can lead to rejection or entry issues.
Use the Passport You Will Travel On
- Choose one passport – Decide which passport you will use for entry and exit in the UAE (e.g. the one with more validity or the one that gives you simpler visa rules).
- Apply with that passport – On the application, enter the nationality and passport number of that same passport. Upload a copy of that passport’s bio page.
- Travel with that passport – When you fly and at UAE immigration, show the same passport you applied with. Your eVisa is linked to that passport.
If you switch passports between application and travel, the eVisa may not be accepted and you could be denied entry.
Why It Matters
- Identity – The UAE links the eVisa to the passport number and nationality you gave. Immigration will check that the passport you show at the border matches the one on the visa.
- Eligibility and fees – Different nationalities can have different eligibility and government fees. So the passport you choose can affect whether you need a visa and how much you pay. Choose the passport you will actually use and apply with that one only.
Fees and Eligibility
- Government fee – Depends on nationality. If your two passports are from different countries, the fee may be different for each. We charge based on the nationality you select (the passport you will use).
- Eligibility – Some nationalities are eligible for eVisas; others may need to apply through an embassy. So one of your nationalities might be eligible and the other not. Use the passport that is eligible and that you will use to enter.
You can check requirements and fees for each of your nationalities on our Check Requirement page, then decide which passport to use and apply with that one.
Consistent Use
- From application to border – Use the same passport for: (1) application and payment, (2) document upload, (3) boarding the flight, (4) UAE immigration. Do not mix passports.
- Names – The name on your application must match the name on the passport you use. If one passport has a different spelling or order of names, use that passport’s details consistently.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have a British and an Australian passport. Which should I use?
Use the one you will use to enter and leave the UAE. Apply with that passport’s nationality and number, and travel with that same passport. Check Check Requirement for both if you want to compare fees and eligibility.
Can I apply with one passport and travel with the other?
No. You must apply with the same passport you use at the border. Otherwise the eVisa may not match your travel document and you could be refused entry.
Which passport gives cheaper fees?
Government fees vary by nationality. Use our Check Requirement or Fees page for each nationality. Then choose the passport you will travel on and apply with that one—even if the other passport would have been cheaper, you cannot switch after applying.
Do I need to show both passports when applying?
No. You only need to provide details and a copy of the one passport you will use for the UAE trip. We do not need to see your other passport(s).
My name is different on my two passports. What should I do?
Use the full name exactly as it appears on the passport you will use for the UAE. That is the name that must be on the application and on the eVisa.
Can I have two eVisas (one per passport)?
If you really plan to enter once with one passport and later with another, you would need two separate applications (and two sets of fees), each with the correct passport. In practice, most travelers choose one passport for the trip and apply once with that passport.
